Amari Cooper
Amari Cooper Non-factor in divisional-round win
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 9:31 PM
Cooper didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Cooper has just eight yards through two playoff games, as the veteran wide receiver has failed to step up in the postseason. Josh Allen threw for only 127 yards as the Bills rode three rushing touchdowns and a 3-0 edge in the turnover battle to a berth in the AFC Championship Game, but Cooper could be more involved in Kansas City if Buffalo's forced into a more pass-heavy game plan.
Dalton Kincaid
Dalton Kincaid One catch in divisional-round win
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 9:28 PM
Kincaid caught one of two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Kincaid continues to post modest numbers, though he was hardly the only player to struggle in the passing game for the Bills in this one, as only Khalil Shakir (67) exceeded 15 receiving yards. The talented tight end could be more involved in the AFC Championship Game against a Chiefs defense that allowed the most receiving yards in the league to the position in the regular season.
Khalil Shakir
Khalil Shakir Six catches help team reach AFCCG
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 9:02 PM
Shakir caught six of seven targets for 67 yards in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Shakir was easily Josh Allen's favorite target, as no teammate had more than 15 receiving yards or three targets. After leading the Bills in catches (76), receiving yards (821) and targets (100) in the regular season, Shakir has been the team's leading pass catcher in the playoffs with 12 catches for 128 yards on 13 targets in two postseason games. Shakir should continue to play a pivotal role in Buffalo's passing game against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
James Cook
James Cook Posts 82 scrimmage yards in win
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 8:59 PM
Cook rushed 17 times for 67 yards and caught all three of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Cook tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns in the regular season and added another touchdown on the ground in the wild-card round against the Broncos, but he didn't account for any of Buffalo's three rushing scores in the AFC divisional round. Ray Davis got the call for a one-yard touchdown on the opening drive, and Josh Allen tacked on two first-half touchdowns with his legs, but Cook easily led the team in rushing yards, as no teammate had more than 31. Cook also finished second on the team in receiving yards, so he was heavily involved despite failing to score. He'll continue to be a key cog in Buffalo's offense in the AFC Championship Game against Kansas City's stout run defense.
Josh Allen
Josh Allen Wins clash of MVP candidates
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 8:56 PM
Allen completed 16 of 22 passes for 127 yards while rushing 10 times for 20 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-25 AFC divisional-round win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Allen extended Buffalo's first drive with a seven-yard run on fourth-and-2 to set up Ray Davis' one-yard rushing touchdown run four plays later. The mobile quarterback was just getting started with his legs, as Allen scored rushing touchdowns of one yard and four yards in the second quarter, the latter of which was set up by a questionable pass interference call on Allen's former teammate Tre'Davious White. Baltimore dominated the third quarter to trim Buffalo's 11-point halftime lead to two, but the Bills tacked on a pair of field goals in the fourth, the second of which came after Allen was denied the hat trick by getting tackled at Baltimore's 2-yard line on back-to-back plays. That was just enough to hang on after the Ravens failed to convert what would have been a game-tying two-point conversion on their final drive. Buffalo's victory sets up an AFC Championship Game on the road against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, against whom Allen is 0-3 in the playoffs.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Active versus Baltimore
Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 4:20 PM
Davis (concussion) is listed as active for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Ravens.
Analysis: Davis, who sustained a concussion during last Sunday's 31-7 wild-card win over the Broncos, was deemed limited at practice this past week before approaching the contest listed as questionable. With his availability versus Baltimore confirmed, Davis is slated to work in a supporting role behind Buffalo's top back James Cook (who logged 23 carries versus Denver), with Ty Johnson also available to mix in.
Jalen Virgil
Jalen Virgil Elevated again for divisional round
Sat, Jan 18, 2025, 3:21 PM
The Bills elevated Virgil from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Virgil was also elevated ahead of last Sunday's wild-card win against Denver, though he ended up being inactive for that contest. Buffalo doesn't have any significant injuries among its receiving corps, so if Virgil is active Sunday in the divisional round against Baltimore, he would likely play primarily on special teams.
Armani Rogers
Armani Rogers Getting look from Buffalo
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 6:31 PM
The Bills signed Rogers to a reserve/future contract Friday.
Analysis: Rogers, who played quarterback in college before converting to a tight end upon going pro, originally signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He was a bit of a Cinderella story that season, opening the campaign on the Commanders' roster and catching five passes on six targets for 64 yards while rushing twice for 26 yards over 11 games. However, Rogers tore his Achilles in May of 2023 and hasn't played in an NFL game since, though he spent much of the 2024 campaign on Atlanta's practice squad. Rogers isn't eligible to play for Buffalo during the remainder of the postseason, but he'll be able to compete for a roster spot during training camp this summer.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Questionable for Sunday
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 1:16 PM
Davis (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Ravens.
Analysis: Davis sustained a concussion during this past Sunday's wild-card win versus the Broncos, containing him to a limited walkthrough Wednesday and back-to-back capped sessions to wrap up the week. He must gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to make himself available this weekend, as coach Sean McDermott told Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News earlier Friday that the running back remains in the protocol for head injuries.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Remains in concussion protocol
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 10:31 AM
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Friday that Davis is still in the NFL's concussion protocol, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Davis was forced out of Buffalo's wild-card win over the Broncos in the second half, and though he's since managed to practice in a limited capacity during one walkthrough and one full session, his status remains uncertain for Sunday's divisional-round game against Baltimore. The rookie fourth-round pick will need to gain full medical clearance, including from an independent neurologist, in order to be allowed to suit up versus the Ravens. Friday's official practice report likely will label Davis questionable to play Sunday.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Remains limited Thursday
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 2:34 PM
Davis (concussion) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
Analysis: Davis suffered a concussion in the second half of this past Sunday's wild-card win against the Broncos. Since then, he logged a limited walkthrough Wednesday and maintained that activity level one day later, albeit while donning a red non-contact jersey, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. In the end, Davis will be subject to an examination from an independent neurologist in order to have a chance to play Sunday versus the Ravens.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Puts in limited practice
Wed, Jan 15, 2025, 2:18 PM
Davis (concussion) was a limited participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice.
Analysis: Though Davis remains in the five-step concussion protocol, he's apparently made enough progress since suffering the head injury in Sunday's 31-7 win over the Broncos in the wild-card round to take part in non-contact portions of practice. He'll likely need to be cleared for contact by Friday's practice in addition to receiving clearance from an independent neurologist before being removed from the protocol. If Davis isn't available for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Ravens, Ty Johnson and practice-squad member Frank Gore (if elevated) would be the available depth options behind lead back James Cook.
Ray Davis
Ray Davis Still in concussion protocol
Wed, Jan 15, 2025, 11:15 AM
Head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Davis remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The concussion forced Davis out of Sunday's wild-card win over the Broncos. If Davis is unable to gain clearance ahead of this Sunday's divisional-round contest against the Ravens, Ty Johnson would be in line to see added snaps behind top back James Cook.
Dawson Knox
Dawson Knox Two grabs in wild-card win
Tue, Jan 14, 2025, 11:25 AM
Knox caught two of three targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card win over the Broncos.
Analysis: Knox played 46 of the Bills' 76 offensive snaps in the contest, ahead of both Dalton Kincaid (29) and Quintin Morris (5). Even with his elevated snap share, the veteran tight end was unable to get much going on his three targets. With Sunday's victory against the Broncos, the Bills are now set to face the Ravens in the divisional-round on Jan. 19. Knox will likely continue to operate in a limited role against Baltimore while sharing the majority of tight end duties with Kincaid, the preferred option in the passing game.
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman One catch in playoff debut
Tue, Jan 14, 2025, 11:10 AM
Coleman caught one of three targets for five yards in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card win over the Broncos.
Analysis: Coleman had a disappointing wild-card performance, as his five receiving yards marked his lowest total in a contest in which he caught at least one pass. The rookie wideout played 46 of the Bills' 76 offensive snaps in the contest, the second-most snaps of any Buffalo wide receiver behind Mack Hollins (52). Next up for the Bills is a divisional-round matchup against the Ravens on Jan. 19. Coleman will look to bounce back and be more involved in what projects to be a high-scoring affair against Baltimore.
Dalton Kincaid
Dalton Kincaid Three catches in wild-card win
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 9:06 AM
Kincaid played 29 of the Bills' 76 offensive snaps and finished with three catches for 47 yards on three targets in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card win over the Broncos.
Analysis: After being active but not playing in the Bills' Week 18 loss to the Patriots while Buffalo was locked into the AFC's No. 2 seed, Kincaid was back in action for the playoff opener, but he once again played second fiddle at tight end to Dawson Knox. For the fourth consecutive game in which both tight ends saw action, Knox outpaced Kincaid in playing time, taking the field for 46 snaps. While Kincaid brings more speed at the position and offers a more diverse route tree, Knox is the more trusted blocker and isn't a total zero as a receiver, as he caught two passes for 38 yards against Denver and finished the regular season with a 22-311-1 line on 33 targets over 16 games. As such, the more experienced Knox looks as though he could continue to play ahead of Kincaid when the Bills host the Ravens in the divisional round next Sunday.
Curtis Samuel
Curtis Samuel Pops for long TD in wild-card win
Sun, Jan 12, 2025, 5:50 PM
Samuel caught all three of his targets for 68 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card round win over the Broncos.
Analysis: The veteran wideout was having a quiet afternoon until he got his hands on a Josh Allen pass early in the fourth quarter and turned it into a 55-yard score with some impressive elusiveness in the open field. Samuel had an injury-plagued regular season and didn't make much of a contribution, but after catching seven of eight targets for 52 yards in Week 18, he appears to be finding a groove at the perfect time. Samuel will look to continue riding this wave of momentum into a divisional-round clash with the Ravens.
Khalil Shakir
Khalil Shakir Leads Buffalo with six grabs Sunday
Sun, Jan 12, 2025, 5:44 PM
Shakir caught all six of his targets for 61 yards in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card round win over the Broncos.
Analysis: While the third-year wideout led the Bills in receptions, Curtis Samuel wound up leading the team in receiving yards thanks to a 55-yard catch-and-run for a TD in the fourth quarter. Shakir didn't need to contribute much in a game the Bills dominated, but he was Josh Allen's top target during the regular season with a 76-821-4 line on 100 targets over 15 appearances. With a much tougher Baltimore squad headed to Buffalo for the divisional round, Shakir might need to step up and make a bigger impact.
Ty Johnson
Ty Johnson Finds end zone in Sunday's win
Sun, Jan 12, 2025, 5:33 PM
Johnson carried the ball nine times for 44 yards and caught both his targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card round win over the Broncos.
Analysis: The 11 touches represented Johnson's biggest volume of the year, and he capped the performance with a sliding circus catch on a 24-yard TD late in the third quarter. The veteran depth RB's big day came about in part because Ray Davis left the game just after halftime with a concussion following a big hit from Brandon Jones. If Davis doesn't get cleared through the concussion protocol in time to suit up for a divisional-round clash with the Ravens next weekend, Johnson would be in line for a bigger role once again, albeit against a stingier opponent.
James Cook
James Cook Romps over Denver in wild-card win
Sun, Jan 12, 2025, 5:26 PM
Cook carried the ball 23 times for 120 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card win over the Broncos.
Analysis: The third-year RB extended his touchdown streak to five games with a five-yard scamper early in the second quarter that put the Bills in the lead for good at 10-7. Cook erupted for 18 total TDs in the regular season, second in the NFL to Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs, and his role in the Buffalo offense is only going to grow in importance in the postseason. Cook faces a tougher matchup in the divisional round, however, as the Bills get ready to host a Ravens squad that allowed the fewest rushing yards per game and fewest yards per carry in the league in 2024.
